What do you see? On vacation, we did a day float and an evening float on the Colorado River. Our guides encouraged us to use our imaginations as we looked at the canyon walls that surrounded us. And we had such fun sharing what images popped out to us. Bring your imagination to worship as we have fun playing with God’s word and discerning what God is up to in our world today. See you at 8:30 or 11:00 a.m.
Some of us have phones that tell us precisely when it is going to rain. Some of us regularly tune into the Weather Underground and we all look to the west when threatening weather comes our way. How are we doing at interpreting what God is up to in our lives and in our communities? Come and listen to God’s word and then let’s be about doing what God has called us to do. Worship at 8:30 and 11:00 a.m.
Waiting can be one of the most difficult things to do, especially in our lives of faith, but we all have seasons of waiting in our lives. It seems like this is a season of a lot of waiting around this time of year. Waiting for school to start again (with excitement or otherwise). Waiting for the coming holidays. Stores are already starting to stock Christmas items! What does God have to say to us in our times of waiting? What are the struggles? What are the promises? What is our calling as we wait? Come worship with us on Sunday at 8:30 and 11:00am!
How do we find balance between unpreparedness and hoarding? How do we live in the present rather than in fear of the future? Join us on Sunday at 8:30 and 11:00am as we wrestle with these questions together.
What is prayer? How did you learn to pray? What are some of the ways you pray? Feel free to leave a comment as you ponder the role of prayer in your faith life. Come join us this Sunday at 8:30 and 11:00 am for worship as we explore what the Lord's prayer has to say to us about our relationship with God.
Join us on Sunday morning at 8:30 and 11:00 to celebrate the mission trip to Birmingham, AL, that our youth have just returned from and hear what they have learned about service. What does service look like to you?
Pray for our youth who are setting out on their mission trip to Birmingham, Alabama, today!
Albrecht Dürer’s Adoration of the Trinity (housed in Vienna’s Kunsthistorisches Museum) is incredibly full and busy, yet is an artistic embodiment of movement. At the very bottom, there is a landscape. Above it, potential saints, a crowd looking up. Beyond that another crowd of saints, gathered around the crucified Christ, and crowding from above, the angels. Yet the painting draws the eye to move ever upward toward God, almost ineluctably. The viewer will scan and look around, curious about the crowds, drawn back sometimes to the landscape, but ultimately always back up toward God through the cross of Christ. This is visually what the Holy Spirit does as truth-teller. Come and worship at 8:30 and 11:00 and explore the mystery of the Trinity.
The Holy Spirit opens the hearts and minds of the disciples in our reading for Pentecost, dramatically fulfilling Jesus' promise to them and ushering them into the next phase of their incredible journey. But the story doesn't stop there. Join us for worship on this Pentecost Sunday as we explore what incredible things the Holy Spirit is up to in and among us at 8:30 and 11:00!
The texts from John, Acts and Revelation this Sunday invite us into God’s beautifully messy community where we move from abandonment to homecoming and from a narrow scope to a broader vision of God’s realm. The early church and our faith communities are called to be centered and re-centered in the unapologetic love for one another so that everyone will know we are disciples of Jesus. Come to worship, to celebrate the resurrection and to practice the disciplines of Easter – feasting, absolution, and giving of self.
Thanks CTK for being good neighbors! We had a great crew on Monday to move the wood chips at Jo. Co. Neighborhood Center. Give a shout out to Russel Noyes, Dennis Peterson, Gloria Ruby, Intern Nicole, Eric Klein and Pastor Connie. Well Done!
Easter lasts for fifty days: this coming Sunday is the third Sunday of Easter, and we hear another story of Jesus’ appearance after his resurrection. To encounter Jesus here and now, come to worship (8:30 & 11:00), to hear the word, to eat with him, and to connect with his body of believers. (Image: Great Catch of Fish, John August Swanson)
Good Neighbor Volunteer Opportunity on Monday, May 6 from noon til 3pm. The Neighborhood Center at Pheasant Ridge needs help spreading wood chips and playground clean up. They are located at 2651 Roberts Rd. Come and help and if you can bring a lawn cart or wheelbarrow and sturdy rakes - that would be great!
A promise too good to be true. A desperate desire for relationship. A proclamation of peace in the midst of fear. A word of life spoken to each of us. Come join us for worship on Sunday at 8:30 or 11:00am as we hear the story of "Doubting Thomas" again, and reimagine the story as a testament to God's promises.
What does it mean to be Christian? Christians are those who are enlivened by their faith that the power of the resurrection of Jesus Christ can transform themselves and the world. Each Sunday we gather to praise the resurrection, but Easter is our annual blow-out celebration. This year we hear the gospel from Luke, we share the meal of the Lord, and we sing Alleluia over and over again. Join us at 8:30 and 11:00 with breakfast at 9:30.
Good Friday Worship at 7:00 pm tonight. We will hear a portrayal of Mary, the mother of Jesus, reflections on the seven last words of Jesus. The service will include the bidding prayer that starts at the foot of the cross and widens to the cosmos, asking for God’s mercy for this world and conclude with procession of the cross. There will be opportunity to reverence the cross and light a candle.
Oftentimes, to grasp the fullness of something significant, we have to look at both sides. So it is that to approach the meaning of Christ, we have to say two things: Jesus and Christ; human and divine; death and resurrection; bread and body. This Sunday celebrates these two sides: we begin by praising Christ with the song of the angels, and we go on to shout “Crucify him!” Come to join us as we fit both truths into one service. Worship at 8:30 & 11:00 a.m.
Isaiah tells us that God is up to something new, and in our reading from John, one woman recognizes a new activity of God. She demonstrates a love for Jesus from a true relationship in an extravagant, illogical, unbelievable display of this love. Come join us on Sunday to hear more about the witness of Mary of Bethany at 8:30 and 11am!
Grumbling! Grumbling because Jesus welcomed tax collectors and sinners and eats with them. Who are those who cause us to grumble? Jesus invites us into the household of God through this parable in Luke 15. Open your heart and mind to explore this household. It is a household of amazing and infuriating grace. Welcome to the family of God! Come and worship at 8:30 & 11:00 and be fed at the Lord’s Table.
